Data insights on our Diet – Part 4 Food Supply

In assessing the development of a country, one of the key parameters is the role of supply chain in handing the food. Food is the basic necessity for survival and the ability to distribute the right food across the population is important and at the same time, a complex process.

Looking at the data insights from above, US has a higher percentage of the animal product distribution compared to India and Japan. In Japan, compared to US and India, aquatic products are higher in nature which is a reflection of higher marine food supply due to large ocean resources. In any country not all types of foods which are required for healthy diets can be grown locally. While the population tries to consume locally grown crops, governments should create the infrastructure and distribution network for imports and exports creating good financial trade and healthy populations.

Check out the World Integrated Trade site for rich data and insights on various imports and exports across countries.

In the next segment we will see the impact of all the factors- FAT consumption, energy intake, proteins, food supply on population obesity and malnutrition statistics.
